More than 60,000 teddy bears were sent to Newtown, Connecticut after the 2012 Sandy Hook tragedy – so many that a storage facility was required.

Sandy Hook Promise’s new public service announcement (PSA) titled “A Teddy Bear’s Dream,” centers around the notion that kids deserve to be kids, and teddy bears deserve to be teddy bears – an innocent part of childhood, not a symbol for shrines and memorials in the aftermath of school shootings

Sandy Hook Promise works every day to prevent school shootings and gun violence by educating and empowering people to recognize the warning signs that can save lives, turning awareness into action. Because of these programs, Sandy Hook Promise has prevented at least 17 credible planned school shootings — and countless other acts of violence and self-harm.

The core message of the PSA is clear: “School shootings are preventable when you know the signs.”

Preventing further gun violence in our schools must be a national conversation, and this cannot happen without you.
